Starting Line
In 2020, Jakiya embarked on a global journey as a professional athlete, proudly representing Australia in Rugby 7's. While her teammates would quickly spend their travel allowances, Jakiya's practical mindset instead nudged her to save her funds for future needs. As a result, she did not require any intervention or payroll diversion to manage her finances effectively.

Financial Forecast and Real Estate Investment
Recognising Jakiya's dedication to saving, a financial forecast was conducted for a two-year period. During this time, she decided to invest in real estate by purchasing two blocks of land off-the-plan, with a focus on land registration in 2023/24. With a small deposit of $25,000, Jakiya gained control over $500,000 in real estate assets.
Transition and Adaptation
Jakiya experienced a significant life change when she became disillusioned with Rugby and decided to switch codes. Unfortunately, this transition resulted in a substantial pay cut. However, thanks to her financial tools and education, Jakiya remained unfazed by the reduced income. She committed herself to working diligently to cover her rent, expenses, and continue saving despite the challenges.
The Result
2023 was breakout year for Jakiya.
Her hard work on the field was rewarded with selection in the Australian team and winning the prestigious Winger of the year Award at the Dally M medal presentation night. Off the back of an excellent season with the Tigers in the NRLW she signed a new 3 year deal with the Nth Qld Cowboys.
Off the field, and she was killing it as well, with the sale of the first block of land for $90,000 more than purchase price. Jakiya is utilizing the funds towards the construction of an investment property on the second block, which has also appreciated by approximately $60,000and will hold this property for long term growth.
Jakiya's commitment to her sport remains unwavering, as she trains rigorously with her new club, the Nth Qld Cowboys in the NRLW.
Simultaneously, she continues to work diligently, adding to her savings every day. Her charity work with the Goanna Academy is testament to her character.
As she continues to pursue her athletic career and work hard, Jakiya's dedication to financial wellbeing positions her for a solid financial future.
